Valstead 450 mg tablets are antiviral drugs that contain the active ingredient Valganciclovir. It is part of the class called Antiviral (Non-HIV) medications. Valganciclovir transforms into Ganciclovir upon entering the body, and it works to combat viral infections. The drug is prescribed to combat Cytomegalovirus (CMV) conditions in the eyes’ retina for adults who suffer from Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Cytomegalovirus can lead to vision issues and blindness. It also prevents Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in patients who have received an organ transplant from someone whom CMV infects in both children and adults.
Do not take this medication if you are allergic to the Valganciclovir drug, Ganciclovir, or its components. Inform your doctor if you are suffering from decreased blood cell numbers ( WBC, RBC, Platelet). Inform your physician if you received any form of radiotherapy or hemodialysis (a treatment that removes the wastes and fluids out of the blood) or if you have any issues related to your kidney. Inform your doctor if you are expecting or planning to become pregnant. Utilize effective contraception throughout and even after treatment. Women should utilize contraceptives for 30 days, while men should make use of condoms for 90 days between and following treatment. Talk to your doctor about any fertility concerns.
