Novelon tablets are an oral hormone combination drug containing two active ingredients: Desogestrel and Ethinylestradiol. The tablet is used as a contraceptive that is used to control birth. It is a combination of female hormones for sex (estrogen as well as progestogen) to block the release of eggs from the ovaries, thereby keeping pregnancy out. Furthermore, it helps treat dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea can cause painful and irregular periods, with symptoms that include stomach pains, digestion issues, vomiting, fainting, and nausea.
Take this medication only if you are allergic to Desogestrel, Ethinylestradiol, or other components. Before you begin taking the Novelon tablet, tell your physician if you are allergic to progestins or estrogens or if you have a background of eye problems, breast cancer, and kidney and liver as well as heart (stroke) illnesses. Be sure to mention if you suffer from headaches or diabetes, as the medication may alter blood sugar levels and the intensity of headaches. Don’t take this medication if you are a victim of certain blood clotting conditions. (Before beginning the medication, inform your doctor if you notice brown patches on your body or face (chloasma) and avoid prolonged sunlight or exposure to ultraviolet light. Also, let your doctor know if you have Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), hemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), sickle cell anemia, elevated levels of fat in the blood (hypertriglyceridemia), a family history of this condition, or if you need an operation or have recently given birth. Also, tell your physician if there is an inflammation of the veins beneath your skin (superficial thrombophlebitis) or varicose veins), liver tumors, or pancreatitis. Do not take this medication if there is no explanation for vaginal bleeding or if there is a need to take medicines for Hepatitis C. Do not use it during surgery or long-term inactivity, as it can increase the chance of blood clots. Avoid taking this medicine if you have severe diabetes with blood vessel damage, very high blood pressure, a very high level of fat in the blood (cholesterol or triglycerides), or a condition known as hype homocysteinemia. This medicine is not recommended for youngsters under the age of 18.
