Sevlaren 400mg tablet is a source of an active ingredient named Sevelamer. It is part of the medication class of phosphate binders. It is employed to control hyperphosphatemia (high blood levels of phosphate) in adults undergoing dialysis (hemodialysis or dialysis peritoneal) and those suffering from chronic kidney diseases with elevated phosphorus levels in their serum. It should be combined alongside other treatments, including vitamin D or calcium-rich supplements, to avoid bone disease. A high blood phosphorus level can result in calcification, a process where deposits develop and increase the stiffness of blood vessels, affecting blood flow.
Do not take Sevlaren 400 mg tablet If you are allergic to Sevelamer or any of the ingredients in the medicine. Avoid taking this medicine when you are suffering from lower levels of phosphate or an obstruction in the bowel. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, are planning to become pregnant, or suspect that you are nursing or pregnant. Before beginning the treatment plan, tell your physician to be aware of any issues you may have with swallowing or if your stomach or bowels are having problems moving food.
Inform your physician if you suffer from bowel pain or suffered a significant bowel or stomach surgery. Sevlaren 400 mg tablet is not recommended for children younger than six years old due to the lack of research studies regarding the safety and efficacy for the same age group.
